Strava Update Hits Trailforks Users
By
Strava’s recent updates to its data integration policies have significantly impacted how third-party applications, including Trailforks, can access and display user activity data. As a result, Trailforks can no longer automatically import Strava activities into its public feed. While users who have previously connected their Strava accounts can still view their imported data privately, several community-driven features are now inaccessible for these activities.
The affected features include:
- Earning badges and participating in contests
- Trail leaderboards
- Summit Tracker
- Supporting trail associations with anonymous usage data
- Enhancing maps and calculating popular routes
- Powering the route finder, activities layers, and heatmap features
- Providing last ridden trail status data to trail associations
- Sharing activities with feed followers
- Accessing shareable year-in-review summaries
To maintain full functionality within the Trailforks platform, users are encouraged to record their rides directly using the Trailforks app or by connecting their devices—such as Garmin watches—directly to Trailforks. Recording activities directly offers benefits like improved navigation, Traildar proximity alerts, and live location sharing.
These changes underscore the importance of how data integration policies can influence user experience across interconnected platforms. For mountain bikers who rely on both Strava and Trailforks, adapting to these updates is crucial to continue contributing to and benefiting from the Trailforks community.
